With a Growing Career, Actor Cory Hardrict Keeps Family First

As his new movie “Battle:Los Angeles” continues to be a box office hit and he awaits the upcoming birth of his first son, actor Cory Hardrict is feeling on the top of the world.
Hardrict and fellow actress Tia Mowry dated for ten years, before marrying in 2008, and continue to be one of the few young married couples of color in Hollywood. Hardrict has been featured in films including “Never Been Kissed” and “He’s Just Not That Into You” and had a few scenes with his wife on her hit sitcom “The Game.” In a candid interview with Heart & Soul Hardrict discusses his latest role as a tough marine, preparing for fatherhood and how his late mother keeps him motivated.
Heart & Soul: “Battle: Los Angeles,” is a box office right hit. Congrats. In the movie the people of Los Angeles are under an alien attack. What was the experience like?
Cory Hardrict: The attack is happening all over the world, though the focus is LA. The aliens are here to take our resources. The aliens are terrorizing the whole coast and across the world. The local Marines are called to fight and defend Los Angeles. I couldn’t believe I was involved in such a great creation. It reminded me of ‘Avatar,’ ‘War of the Worlds,’ ‘Independence Day’, ’2012′ and ‘Black Hawk Down’ all tied together. The movie depicts the aliens in such a real manner that you believe aliens are attacking the world. It’s incredible!
H & S: With a busy and unpredictable schedule, what’s your regimen for staying fit?
Hardrict: I play serious ball. I play in a celebrity entertainment league in Santa Monica. Every Sunday I play basketball for real. My wife and I ride our mountain bikes, though not while she’s been pregnant. I jog around the neighborhood.
And congrats on the son you and Tia are expecting. Has getting ready for fatherhood been instinctual or something you are preparing for?
Hardrict: Both. This is our first child. I’m caring and nurturing now, though at the same time we’re about to begin taking parenting classes.
What model couples do you and Tia look to?
Hardrict: Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, they put family first. Rodney and Holly Robinson Peete as well.
So who’s the better cook between you or Tia?
Hardrict: Me hands down. I cook the meanest eggs in America.
I don’t think you can go wrong with eggs!
Hardrict:Yes you can! They have to have a balance to them. [Laughs] Tia can cook chicken, fish and she sautés vegetables well. She can get down in the kitchen.
Share the most romantic moment in your relationship.
Hardrict: We went to Turks & Caicos for our honeymoon and had a candle lit dinner along the white sand and crystal clear water. It was amazing! It felt as though we were on this big island alone.
How are you planning to balance your demanding careers while parenting?
Hardrict:We’ll make it work. Family comes first and everything else falls into place. We keep God at the head and let him run our life and dictate what we do. Everything will work out fine.
What is your source for spiritual strength?
Hardrict: Reading the word and the promises made from the word. I get strength from my vision and believe that no one can deter me from what I need to do. I get strength from the tattoo of my mother on my arm, she passed away in 1996. When I get down, I look at the tattoo and say I have to keep going for you.
